Pokédex
A 36-page printed Pokédex. A type-based colour system, stat graphics for every Pokémon, and "Who's that Pokémon?" breaks to pace the book.
Overview
A Pokédex is already an information design object: dozens of creatures, each with a type, a portrait and a set of numbers. I wanted to turn it into a printed book that feels as energetic as the games and still reads like a reference.
The system
A system, not a scrapbook. Every page follows one grid, so the book stays readable however many Pokémon it holds.
01
A colour for every type
Each of the nine types in the book has its own colour. It opens the chapter on a divider page and carries through every entry's band, so a chapter reads at a glance.
- Electric
- Grass
- Ghost
- Psychic
- Flying
- Fire
- Poison
- Rock
- Water

02
Anatomy of an entry
Every Pokémon gets the same treatment, three to a page:
- A band in its type colour
- Its name, height, weight and abilities
- A stat chart for HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack and Speed
- A portrait vignette

03
Pacing the book
The book opens with the cover, an acknowledgement and a wheel of every type. Divider pages open each chapter, and silhouette quiz pages ask "Who's that Pokémon?" to break the rhythm the way the anime did between segments. It closes on "Gotta catch 'em all!"

Gotta catch 'em all.
